You can also read through previous HBC service recaps here.) —————————– On Tuesday at 12:51 p.m., a magnitude 6.3 earthquake [...] Day 3: more great talks and workshops. Bryson unpacked Psalm 22 detailing Jesus as the suffering King, Peter Collier covered the gruesome coronation and crucifixion of Jesus (Matthew 27:27-61). Powerful stuff. The workshop on youth ministry gave practical points. In the strand groups we grappled with trying to summarize the passage into one “big idea”, [...] We had much milder weather today on the second day of YLC 2011 – thanks be to God! I read on the weather forecast last night that it got up to 32 degrees yesterday – no wonder we were sweating all day! Today it was a much more manageable 21 degrees. OK – recap of Day [...] So here’s a piecemeal summary of our first day at YLC, and participating in the Strand 1 workshop. Morning Session: Psalm 2 Bryson Smith, a Presbyterian Minister, gave an encouragement from Psalm 2. He pointed out the context of the psalm, as being at the front of the list because it declares, in conjunction with Psalm 1, [...] This time tomorrow we’ll be in Kaiapoi, just north of Christchurch for YLC 2011. For those who haven’t heard of it, it’s a weeklong conference where the majority of the time is spent learning how to study and teach the Bible. Basic concept, but very unique. Both of us will be going, and we plan [...] Here’s the weekly recap of the Sunday service at my home church. This week we joined in worship with brothers and sisters from the Evangelical Formosan Church NZ (a Mandarin-speaking congregation) – naturally there was quite a different, yet immensely exciting feel to the day! I led the service, which was ably translated by Paul [...] 
On Sunday afternoon we had an end-of-year get-together/BBQ with many of our home church‘s music, sound and multimedia servants, along with their families. It was a good group of about 40+ people, and a great time of fellowship and celebrating how faithful God has been to HBC over the year gone by. I shared with everyone one [...]
